Speaker: Chris Reed, President, New Directions Addictions Recovery Services

Summary of Presentation: Covid has impacted the workforce in many ways. Labor shortages have shifted the conversation from recruitment to retention. Studies show us that alcohol and drug use has surged during the pandemic. 

Through this presentation HR professionals can learn: how to address addiction and relapse, how to motivate and support employees struggling with a substance use disorder and how to become a recovery friendly employer.

Speakers bio:

Throughout his 11 years in recovery, Chris has learned the importance of helping others just as others have helped him. He is the President and founding member of the nonprofit organization New Directions Addictions Recovery Services that manages The Other Side sober bar and multiple sober living residences throughout McHenry County.

Chris’s passion for helping others led him to open Northern Illinois Recovery Center in 2019 to treat substance use disorders and co-occurring issues. Northern Illinois Recovery supports individuals in need of compassion and quality care while they learn how to be their best selves.

He attributes the successes in his life to the direct support from the community when he needed it most and continues to make contributions that support others who are in need. Chris is a 2016 graduate of LGMC, the same year he was awarded the McHenry County Vision of Hope Award.
